Iran’s Embassy in India has announced that Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, speaker of Iran’s parliament, will not attend the 12th BRICS Parliamentary Forum in New Delhi.
Al Jazeera reported early Sunday, October 25, that the Iranian Embassy in New Delhi announced his absence in a statement.
According to the report, Iran’s diplomatic mission in India cited “unforeseen circumstances” as the reason for Ghalibaf’s absence but provided no further details.
The statement added that an Iranian parliamentary delegation would still attend the meeting.
However, it remains unclear whether the Iranian parliament speaker’s absence is related to domestic concerns or the war waged by the United States and Israel against Iran.
