Antonio Guterres, Secretary-General of the United Nations, said in his latest report that about 280 cases of grave violations against children in Afghanistan were documented between April 1 and June 30, affecting 87 girls among them.
Guterres released the report on Wednesday, September 16, stating that “killing and maiming” were the most common violations against children during this period.
According to the report, “killing and maiming” accounted for 77 percent of the documented cases of grave violations against children.
The report said that explosive devices continued to be the leading cause of child casualties in Afghanistan.
The report was prepared by the Afghanistan Country Task Force on Monitoring and Reporting on Children and Armed Conflict.
The United Nations emphasized the need to continue monitoring the situation of children and documenting violations of their rights.
