Antonio Guterres, Secretary-General of the United Nations, said in his latest report to the UN Security Council that 2,947 security incidents were recorded in Afghanistan over the past three months.
According to the report, the Afghanistan-Pakistan border remained volatile during this period amid airstrikes, drone surveillance and retaliatory military actions.
From April 1 to June 30, 57 people were killed, and 342 others were injured as a result of cross-border armed violence between Afghanistan and Pakistan.
According to the UN, the victims included 40 women and 112 children.
Several clashes between Taliban security forces and Pakistani forces were also reported in Kandahar, Nangarhar and Paktia provinces.
Another section of the report states that ISIS-K claimed responsibility on June 30 for an attack on a Taliban military checkpoint in Wigal district of Nuristan province.
ISIS also claimed responsibility on July 29 for the assassination of Zabihullah Amiri, the Taliban’s head of Information and Culture in Badakhshan.
