In response to the deactivation of one of the internet domains of Hasht-e Subh by the Taliban regime, the head of Freedom House Afghanistan, Danesh Karokhel, voices deep concern over the decision, saying imposing any kind of restrictions and censorship on the media outlets is not a solution and cannot be implemented.
In a video message Wednesday, Karokhel made these remarks and called on the Taliban to reactivate the internet domain of Hasht-e Subh website (8am.media) and Zawia News.
“The media should be able to criticize and reflect people’s words in order to prevent rumors in Afghanistan,” said Karokhel.
In a statement, Amnesty International also called this decision of the Taliban an attack on the freedom of media.
In a recent attempt, the Taliban’s Ministry of Telecommunication suspended the domain of Hasht-e Subh Daily (www.8am.media). The domain [8am.media] was legally purchased, registered, owned, and was actively online for the last 16 years by this newspaper and now the website is accessible with the internet domain (8am.media).
