The International Human Rights Foundation (IHRF) has called for credible, transparent, and independent investigations into reports of civilians being killed and wounded following Pakistani airstrikes inside Afghanistan.
The foundation said on Monday, September 21, expressing concern over civilian casualties, that allegations concerning the targets of the attacks and reports of civilian deaths and injuries must be independently investigated.
The International Human Rights Foundation stressed that Afghan civilians must not be considered collateral victims of the attacks and called for compliance with international law, protection of civilian lives and accountability for any violations of the law.
The foundation added that counterterrorism obligations do not diminish the fundamental obligation to protect civilians.
The International Human Rights Foundation also called on Pakistan and Afghanistan to take immediate steps to reduce tensions, stressing that security cannot be built on civilian suffering.
Pakistan carried out airstrikes on Barmal district in Paktia and Nurgal district in Kunar on Sunday. As a result of the attacks, three civilians were killed, and four others were wounded.
