Seyed Abbas Araghchi has warned that attacks by the United States and Israel on Iran’s nuclear facilities could lead to the risk of radioactive contamination across the region.
Abbas Araghchi said on Saturday, April 4, in a letter to António Guterres, the Secretary-General of the United Nations, members of the United Nations Security Council, and the Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency, that continued attacks would have serious environmental and humanitarian consequences.
He described the attacks as “illegal” and stressed that targeting internationally monitored facilities, including the Bushehr nuclear power plant, could have dangerous consequences.
According to him, in recent months, several Iranian nuclear facilities, including Natanz and Khondab, have been attacked, and repeated strikes near the Bushehr nuclear power plant have increased the risk of radioactive leakage.
Iran’s foreign minister has also criticized international organizations for failing to condemn these attacks.
