The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) says $18 million has been allocated to address humanitarian needs in Afghanistan.
OCHA said on Tuesday, October 6, that the funding will come from the United Nations Central Emergency Response Fund (CERF).
According to OCHA, the funding comes as 21.9 million people in Afghanistan are in need of humanitarian assistance.
The agency added that so far, only about 31 percent of Afghanistan’s 2026 humanitarian plan has been funded.
Meanwhile, Tom Fletcher, the UN under-secretary-general for humanitarian affairs, said $160 million from the Central Emergency Response Fund has been allocated to support 12 underfunded crises.
According to him, the funding will reach 87 million people.
He added that $10 million of the funding has been allocated to ensure that people with disabilities are not left out of humanitarian assistance.
