Mohsen Rezaei, the military advisor to Iran’s Supreme Leader, has declared that Tehran will not tolerate an escalation of hostilities in Lebanon and has warned against the intensification of Israeli military operations in the country’s south.
Al Jazeera reported on Monday, June 1, that Rezaei’s remarks come as Israel has expanded the scope of its ground operations in southern Lebanon and clashes with Hezbollah have intensified.
Earlier, Seyyed Abbas Araghchi, Iran’s Foreign Minister, had stated that the ceasefire between Iran and the United States encompasses ceasefires on all fronts, including Lebanon.
Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, the Speaker of Iran’s Islamic Consultative Assembly and the country’s senior negotiator, had also said that the escalation of the war in Lebanon by Israel and the naval blockade of Iran are signs of the United States’ failure to uphold the ceasefire.
As hostilities in Lebanon have intensified, the country’s Ministry of Health has announced that since the resumption of fighting, the death toll from Israeli attacks across Lebanon has reached 3,433 people.
