Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, while saying that negotiations with Oman to establish a temporary route are in their final stages, said that establishing the route does not mean the Strait of Hormuz will be reopened.
Tasnim reported on Saturday night, August 8, that the Iranian foreign minister made the remarks at an event marking Journalists’ Day.
According to the report, Araghchi said: “The establishment of this route between Iran and Oman does not necessarily mean the Strait of Hormuz will be reopened, as it also depends on other conditions.”
Iranian officials have previously said that the Strait of Hormuz will never return to the situation it was in before the war.
Meanwhile, the United States and Gulf Arab states have called for freedom of navigation through the strait.
