Saudi Foreign Minister Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud and Iraqi Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein held a phone call to discuss a drone launched from Iraq toward Saudi Arabia.
Al Jazeera reported early Saturday, September 12, that the call took place following an attack from Iraqi territory targeting Saudi Arabia’s oil pipeline. Recent reports said drones launched from Iraq struck Saudi Arabia’s East-West oil pipeline.
According to the report, the two foreign ministers exchanged views on the latest regional developments and issues of mutual concern.
Baghdad said the two sides emphasized “the importance of maintaining communication, coordination, and consultations between the two countries,” which would contribute to strengthening regional security and stability and expanding bilateral cooperation.
The development comes as some factions in Iraq, citing their close ties with Iran, had warned of attacks on Saudi Arabia in response to Saudi airstrikes on targets in Iraq several weeks earlier.
