Local sources in Takhar province say the Taliban have seized Hundreds of Hectares of land and forests along the Amu River in several districts of the province.
Sources reported on Wednesday, February 4, that the cutting of forests and seizure of land began in the Kohna Khana area of Dasht-e Qala district and has since extended to Yangi Qala district, affecting at least four districts.
According to the sources, Waziristani Kuchi nomads, with the support of the Taliban, have settled in the forested areas and have begun cultivating the seized land.
The sources added that the destruction of forests and land grabbing is continuing around the clock, raising serious concerns among residents.
Residents say these actions pose a serious threat to the environment, natural resources, and the livelihoods of people in the area.
According to information from the sources, the Taliban have previously carried out similar actions in these areas, and despite public protests, the destruction of forests and changes in land use have continued.
