Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has announced that Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Turkey have agreed to rapidly deploy forces and military capabilities in Saudi Arabia under the Mecca Defense Pact, following an emergency meeting of the “Joint Mecca Defense Agreement” in Riyadh.
Dawn reported on Monday night, October 5, that the three countries held an emergency meeting of the “Political and Defense Strategic Committee” of the “Mecca Defense Alliance” to discuss security developments and threats facing Saudi Arabia.
According to the report, Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry said the committee decided to take immediate steps to implement collective defense commitments and adopt the necessary measures to provide the agreed-upon forces and military capabilities and ensure their rapid deployment in Saudi Arabia.
Although Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry statement did not identify any specific threat, the development comes amid Houthi attacks on Saudi Arabia during the Yemen conflict.
However, Khawaja Muhammad Asif, Pakistan’s defense minister, who attended the meeting, said that the Turkish and Pakistani militaries are currently playing a supporting role.
