Nigeria military officials say that 175 members of the Islamic State group were killed in joint operations with the United States.
Reuters reported on Tuesday, May 19, that the operation was carried out in recent days in northeastern Nigeria with US cooperation.
The operation targeted checkpoints, weapons depots, and financial networks belonging to the so-called Islamic State West Africa Province.
Military officials said the strikes were part of a broader campaign to “hunt down and eliminate” militants in northeastern Nigeria.
According to military sources, several leaders and key figures involved in planning attacks and propaganda activities were also killed.
International reports say that in recent years, a large portion of ISIS activity has shifted to Africa, making the region one of the group’s main operational hubs.
