The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) has announced that funding shortages have forced healthcare facilities in Afghanistan to reduce their services or shut down completely.

On Sunday, November 1, OCHA reported that people in remote areas of Afghanistan must travel long and dangerous distances to reach healthcare facilities.

OCHA said its humanitarian partners are working to provide healthcare services in areas where people can access them more easily.

However, the organization stressed that these efforts are insufficient and that more funding is needed to sustain healthcare services.

OCHA added that securing sustainable and regular funding is essential to maintaining healthcare services, protecting mothers, and improving children’s health.

The organization stressed that urgent medical care must not be delayed until the next round of funding becomes available.
