The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) has warned that renewed clashes near the Torkham border crossing are putting the lives of civilians, including humanitarian workers, at risk.
OCHA reported on Friday, October 30, that a child was killed and a humanitarian worker was injured during clashes on Wednesday.
The organization said repeated fighting in the area also threatens the safety of local communities.
The clashes are continuing as Afghans returning from Pakistan enter the country through the Torkham crossing.
OCHA warned that continued fighting in the area could expose civilians to even greater risks.
The warning comes as the return and forced deportation of Afghan nationals from Pakistan continues, with large numbers of families crossing into Afghanistan through Torkham every day.
