The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) announced on the sidelines of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly that 21.9 million people in Afghanistan need humanitarian assistance.
OCHA said on Tuesday, September 22, that only 31 percent of the required funding had been secured by mid-September.
The agency added that timely and flexible funding is essential to sustain the humanitarian response in Afghanistan.
OCHA stressed that securing the required funding is crucial to preventing further deterioration of the humanitarian situation in Afghanistan.
