Kabul – The Foreign Minister of Pakistan Shah Mahmood Qureshi has said that the current situation in Afghanistan is deteriorating and it is the collective responsibility of all to fight for the betterment.
“The people of Afghanistan have serious doubts about the new US decision to pay their funds to the survivors of 9/11 victims,” Mr. Qureshi said. “Afghan citizens want to have the permission to use this money to address their problems.
On the other hand, he has stressed that Pakistan earlier wanted the Afghan assets to be released.
Moreover, Mr. Qureshi has stated that his country has also adopted a resolution about the issue at an extraordinary meeting of the OIC Council of Foreign Ministers held in Islamabad in December last year.
In the meantime, he added that it is necessary that the assets should be paid to the Afghan people through UN agencies.
Meanwhile, after US President issued an executive order to cut Afghanistan’s foreign exchange reserves and free up another part of Afghanistan’s funds, Munir Akram, Pakistan’s representative to the United Nations, said: “Half a loaf of bread is better than nothing.”
On the other hand, Munir Akram said that the release of Afghanistan’s frozen assets in the US is crucial to reviving and preserving the country’s economy and saving the lives of millions in the winter.
