Pakistan’s Information Minister Attaullah Tarar says more than 20,000 terrorists, including over 6,000 members of Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), have taken refuge in Afghanistan.

Tarar said on Monday, October 12, that these individuals are based in safe havens on Afghan territory, where they receive training.

He added that Pakistan wants to end extremism and radicalism in Afghanistan.

Meanwhile, Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also called on the Taliban on Sunday, October 11, to prevent the activities of “terrorist elements.”

The Pakistani prime minister said Islamabad had repeatedly made this request to the Taliban, but, according to him, the Taliban had yet to understand the issue.

However, Taliban officials have denied the presence of terrorist groups in Afghanistan and have repeatedly stressed that they will not allow the country’s territory to be used against neighbouring countries.
