Pakistani media have reported that the country plans to return thousands of Afghans who are awaiting resettlement in the United States to Afghanistan.
The daily The Nation reported on Monday, February 9, that the Pakistani government intends to deport approximately 19,973 Afghan nationals.
According to the report, the federal government will send official letters to the chief ministers of all provinces, as well as to police chiefs in Punjab, Sindh, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Balochistan, Azad Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan, and the chief commissioner of Islamabad Capital Territory, instructing them to carry out the deportations.
The report adds that information on all 19,973 Afghan nationals awaiting resettlement in the United States will be shared with the relevant chief secretaries, police chiefs, and the Islamabad Capital Territory chief commissioner.
The Pakistani government has not yet issued an official statement on the matter.
This comes as thousands of Afghan nationals in Pakistan are awaiting resettlement in the United States.
Meanwhile, Donald Trump, the President of the United States, has canceled resettlement requests for individuals holding P1 and P2 cases.
