Rana Sanaullah, political adviser to Pakistan’s prime minister, has accused Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) of showing sympathy toward the Taliban despite Pakistan’s national interests.
Dawn reported on Wednesday, October 7, that the political adviser to the Pakistani prime minister made the remarks at a press conference in Islamabad.
According to the report, Sanaullah said Pakistan’s policy is to eliminate any camps or activities in Afghanistan that could lead to attacks in Pakistan in the future, but that PTI is the only party opposed to this policy.
He said PTI, led by former Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan, is pursuing a “policy above national interests.”
The Pakistani prime minister’s political adviser said: “Pakistan’s policy is that it has the right to neutralize training camps or any activities on Afghan soil that could lead to terrorism in Pakistan in the future.”
He also claimed that the Taliban had acknowledged the validity of evidence presented by Pakistan regarding terrorist attacks originating from Afghanistan during several rounds of talks.
However, he said the Taliban have refused to provide assurances that Afghan territory will not be used to carry out terrorist attacks against Pakistan.
