Attaullah Tarar, Pakistan’s Minister for Information and Broadcasting, has alleged that the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa provincial government, led by the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party, has “links” to terrorist groups.
Dawn reported on Sunday night, October 11, that the accusation came after the federal government said the province’s security situation had made it necessary to impose a state of emergency.
According to the report, the federal government declared a state of emergency in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, citing the provincial government’s alleged failure to act against “terrorism.”
The federal government and PTI, which holds power in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, have long disagreed on several issues, particularly counterterrorism policy.
The federal government’s declaration of a state of emergency in the province also comes amid protests by PTI supporters in recent days.
