In Khost province, a small water dam built by the Taliban for a reported 20 million Afghanis collapsed under water flow just five days after its inauguration on 23 May 2025, local sources say. Located in Garbaz district, the dam was opened by Abdul Latif Mansoor, the Taliban’s Minister of Water and Energy.
Residents claim the Taliban spent less than five million Afghanis on the dam, accusing them of deceiving the public about its funding and quality. The collapse has sparked doubts about the Taliban’s infrastructure projects.
Despite the Taliban’s claims of launching major projects across Afghanistan, there is no oversight of their implementation. The Khost dam’s failure highlights ongoing issues with transparency and poor project execution.
