Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani, Qatar’s prime minister and foreign minister, has compared the consequences of the war between the United States and Israel and Iran to an earthquake, warning of cycles of escalating tensions in the Middle East.
Al Jazeera reported early Monday, September 21, that the Qatari prime minister made the remarks at a side event of the Qatar Economic Forum held on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.
According to the report, Al Thani said the region needs “a framework in which sovereignty is respected” and where no country can “pose a threat to another country.”
He added that the “shockwaves” of the US-Israeli war with Iran have spread beyond the Middle East, “challenging existing assumptions about security and stability.”
The Qatari foreign minister said, “Sustainable security cannot be built through arrangements and mechanisms in which one country is constantly exposed to insecurity.”
The remarks come as the war between Iran and the United States has not yet fully ended, while concerns about renewed conflict between the two sides remain.
