Rabab Fatima, the UN Secretary-General’s Special Representative for Afghanistan and head of UNAMA, has said that the United Nations is committed to providing assistance to returning migrants and vulnerable Afghans.
She made the remarks on Friday, October 30, during a meeting with Mawlawi Abdul Kabir, the Taliban’s Minister of Refugees and Repatriation.
Fatima identified mobilizing humanitarian aid, mediating engagement between the international community and the Taliban, and human rights as her key priorities.
She added that the UN has begun efforts to mobilize international support for providing permanent shelter, employment opportunities and facilitating the reintegration of returnees into society.
Meanwhile, Abdul Kabir called on the UN to contribute to providing infrastructure services in migrant townships.
