Richard Bennett, the United Nations Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in Afghanistan, has called for a full and independent investigation into an attack near a school in Dasht-e Barchi, Kabul.
On Tuesday, August 18, Bennett described Monday’s attack as “horrific” in a post on X, saying that a large number of children had been harmed in the incident.
He said that Dasht-e Barchi, a predominantly Hazara-populated area of Kabul, had once again come under attack.
Bennett added that the investigation should be conducted with the aim of identifying those responsible for the attack and bringing them to justice.
Meanwhile, the number of people injured in the explosion near the private Sham-e Hedayat School in Dasht-e Barchi, Kabul, has risen to more than 52.
Bennett’s call for an investigation comes amid growing concerns in recent days over the security situation, targeted killings and armed robberies in Afghanistan.
