UN Women has described the awarding of the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize to Navi Pillay as an opportunity to highlight the importance of courage and perseverance in the fight for justice.

The organisation praised Navi Pillay in a post on its X account on Saturday, October 10, saying: “A lifetime of breaking barriers, a legacy of fighting for justice.”

Congratulating Pillay, UN Women emphasised that progress requires courage, perseverance and people who never give up.

The organisation added that recognising figures such as Pillay serves as a reminder of the importance of continuing efforts to achieve justice and support women and girls.

The remarks come a day after Navi Pillay, a South African lawyer, received the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize in recognition of her efforts to promote peace and international law.
