Sources in Kabul say General Allah Dad Fadai, a former police commander under Afghanistan’s previous government, has been arrested by Taliban intelligence.
Sources told the Hasht-e Subh Daily on Thursday, October 29, that the Taliban arrested Fadai at his home in Kabul earlier this week.
According to the sources, Fadai previously served as police commander in the provinces of Maidan Wardak, Laghman, Nimroz, and Baghlan.
The sources added that he had traveled to Iran after the Taliban took power and returned to Afghanistan about a year ago.
His whereabouts and place of detention remain unknown, the sources said.
Over the past five years, reports have emerged of the Taliban arresting, torturing, and killing dozens of former security personnel in various Afghan provinces.
The United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) previously warned that former government officials and security personnel continued to face the risk of human rights violations after returning to Afghanistan.
These risks persist despite the Taliban leader’s announcement of a general amnesty in 2021.
