Local sources say that clashes have broken out between the Taliban and Pakistani forces in Zazi Aryub district of Paktia province, along the Durand Line.
Sources told the Hasht-e Subh Daily on Wednesday, September 23, that the clashes began at around 5:00 p.m. the previous day and continued for several hours.
According to the sources, a large number of mortar shells also struck residential homes during the clashes.
Local residents said their homes were targeted by Pakistani forces and that mortar shells were fired at villages.
The sources added that several families fled their homes during the clashes, fearing that they could be hit by the shelling.
Residents said that clashes have occurred in the area two or three times a week over the past six months, making daily life difficult for them.
The clashes come as the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) has previously stressed the need to respect international humanitarian law and called for necessary measures to prevent cross-border clashes.
