The Taliban have announced that construction of a 1,694-metre railway line at Naibabad Station on the Hairatan-Mazar-e-Sharif route has been completed and the line has been put into operation.
Bakhtar News Agency, which is controlled by the Taliban, reported on Tuesday, October 20, that the project was inaugurated in the presence of Abdul Karim Fateh, head of the Taliban Railway Authority.
The project was implemented under a cooperation agreement between the Taliban Railway Authority and Uzbekistan Railways and forms part of a plan to expand facilities at Naibabad Station.
According to the report, the agreement is worth more than 169.8 million Afghanis and covers the construction of new railway lines, warehouses for storing commercial goods, unloading and loading stations, and other required facilities.
However, construction of the remaining sections of the project is still underway.
The Taliban say that completing this section of the railway line could increase the capacity to transport commercial goods and help expand trade between Afghanistan and Uzbekistan.
