Local Taliban officials in Herat have reported an increase in grape yields for the current year. According to the press office of the Taliban governor in Herat, it is expected that 180,000 tons of grapes will be harvested from the province’s vineyards this year.

In a press release on Sunday, 20 July 2025, the Taliban authorities noted that last year’s harvest amounted to 160,000 tons of grapes. This marks a notable rise in production for the region, which is well-known for its high-quality grapes across Afghanistan.

Despite the increase in yield, challenges remain for Herati farmers. Last year, they expressed concerns over the lack of a suitable market for their grapes, highlighting ongoing difficulties in finding buyers for their produce.
