Residents of Nimruz province say that the Taliban have detained an elderly Baloch woman named Zulaikha in the province.

On Sunday, June 14, sources told the Hasht-e Subh Daily that the incident began when Taliban fighters beat and then arrested her young son in “Deh Rais” village in Kang district of Nimruz province.

According to the sources, when the Taliban were assaulting her 62-year-old son, she intervened in an attempt to stop the beating.

It is reported that after severely beating the son, the Taliban took him away, and a day later, when Zulaikha went to the Taliban prison to see her son, she was also detained by the group.

Residents of Nimruz say that the Taliban have been holding the elderly woman in Zaranj city for the past two days without any reason, and no one from her family has been allowed to visit her.

Her arrest has sparked anger and reactions among residents, who say the action is “against religious and Islamic teachings.”
