Several university professors in Badakhshan Province report that the Taliban have dismissed 36 individuals from their positions, the majority of whom are women. A female professor at Badakhshan University, speaking on Wednesday, May 14, provided the list of dismissed individuals to the Hasht-e Subh Daily, stating that the Taliban’s action is systematic and deliberately targets women.
The list shared with the newspaper primarily includes female professors. The professor added, “My only source of income was the 5,000 Afghanis I earned monthly from this position, but now the Taliban have cut it off.”
According to her, the Taliban have also included the names of several male professors in the list who had left the university three years ago. This has raised further concerns about the legitimacy and intent behind the dismissals.
Previously, the group also dismissed around 60 to 70 female professors with master’s and doctoral degrees from Kabul University. In a rare move, the Taliban have begun a wave of dismissals of university professors across various provinces—a process that predominantly targets women.
