Kabul – The acting Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan Amir Khan Muttaqi traveled to Islamabad to attend a meeting of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation foreign ministers today Saturday, December 18.
The summit will be held and hosted by Pakistan on Afghanistan tomorrow, Sunday, December 19. In addition to the OIC member states, representatives from the United States, the European Union, China, and Russia have also been invited to the meeting.
The purpose of this meeting is to find a solution to prevent a humanitarian crisis in the country. Pakistani Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi also called the meeting important in bridging the communication gap between the Taliban and the international community. He, however, rejected the discussion of recognizing the Taliban at the meeting.
Earlier, the Taliban had asked the OIC to support and recognize their government.
However, the Supreme National Resistance Council of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan asked the OIC not to invite the Taliban to its meeting.
Meanwhile, the council issued a statement saying it also supported the UN decision to reject the Taliban’s application for representation and called on the OIC to reject the Taliban’s application for membership.
