Sources in Kabul say that the Taliban have suspended the activities of four private universities in Afghanistan.
These sources confirmed on Saturday, November 1, 2025, in a conversation with the Hasht-e Subh Daily, that Qalam, Esteqamat, Ibn Sina, and Dunya universities are included in this Taliban decision.
It is worth mentioning that the order to suspend these four private universities has been issued under the signature of Neda Mohammad Nadeem, the Taliban’s Minister of Higher Education.
According to the sources, the Taliban have warned that if their concerns are not addressed within one year, the operating licenses of these universities will be revoked.
Sources believe that ethnic and sectarian issues may have played an important role in making this decision, although the Taliban have not officially announced their full reasons.
This Taliban decision comes as part of the continuation of imposing educational restrictions on universities and educational centers in Afghanistan.
Previously, the Taliban closed university doors to girls in Afghanistan, and after that, health sciences institutes have also remained closed to girls until further notice.
