The United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) says that enforcers of the Taliban’s Ministry for the Promotion of Virtue and the Prevention of Vice arbitrarily detained more than 520 people during October, November, and December 2025.
UNAMA published its quarterly report on Afghanistan’s human rights situation during these months on Sunday, February 8.
According to the report, at least 50 cases of mistreatment of Afghan women and men by Taliban enforcers were recorded during this period.
Taliban morality enforcers mainly detained or mistreated individuals over issues such as improper hijab, Western-style haircuts, trimming beards, and playing music.
This comes as the Taliban had repeatedly carried out mass arrests of women and transferred them to security facilities even before October, November, and December 2025.
