The Taliban have announced that the Salang Highway will be closed to trailer trucks until further notice to accelerate the reconstruction process.

The Taliban’s Ministry of Public Works said in a statement published on Tuesday, June 30, 2026, that the decision was made to speed up the reconstruction process and ensure higher quality for the project.

According to the statement, the restriction on the movement of trailer trucks will take effect on Friday, July 10, 2026, and will remain in place until further notice.

The Taliban’s Ministry of Public Works has urged trailer truck drivers to transport their cargo before the restriction takes effect and to refrain from traveling on the Salang Highway afterward.

The Taliban also added in the statement that the movement of other freight and passenger vehicles will continue in accordance with traffic regulations.
