Residents of Baghlan province have reported that the Taliban have imposed strict restrictions on them since yesterday and stationed a number of their fighters near each barbershop, prohibiting the barbers from trimming hair and beards.

According to the residents who spoke to Hasht-e Subh on Tuesday, June 27, at least three barbers in Shahr-e Kohna Baghlan have been detained by the Taliban for trimming their customers’ hair and beards. These barbers have been handed over to the security command of the group.

“With Eid approaching, it is essential for us to groom ourselves, but the Taliban deprive us of this opportunity,” added the residents.

The Taliban have not provided any comments on this matter.

This incident follows previous reports from residents of the Begram district in Parwan province, where the Taliban publicly flogged several young men for trimming and shortening their beards.

Barbers in different provinces across the country have previously faced humiliation by the Taliban for trimming or shaving their customers’ beards and hair.
