Local sources in several provinces report a complete shutdown of fiber-optic internet.

These sources told the Hasht-e Subh Daily on Monday, September 29, 2025, that the move was carried out on the orders of Hibatullah Akhundzada, the Taliban Supreme Leader, and will soon be implemented across all of Afghanistan.

According to the sources, in some provinces, access to fiber-optic internet has already been completely cut off, leaving users facing serious difficulties.

Several broadcast and media outlets have also issued statements confirming the total shutdown of fiber-optic services, saying the move has disrupted their programming.

The Taliban had previously restricted or temporarily suspended access to fiber-optic internet in certain provinces.
