US President Donald Trump has played down speculation that the United States could launch another round of attacks on Iran after Monday’s midterm elections, saying the country is fully prepared and armed.
Al Jazeera reported early Wednesday, November 4, that Trump made the remarks in an interview with a US media outlet.
According to the report, Trump said, “I’m ready, we’re ready. If we need to go in, we’re fully prepared and armed, although there may be no reason to do so.”
Trump said in the interview that the United States currently has no immediate plans to attack Iran.
Referring to negotiations with Iran, he added that Tehran appeared to be giving him everything he wanted.
The US president claimed that more oil is now passing through the Strait of Hormuz than before the war. He also said the US blockade of Iranian ports had placed Tehran’s economy under severe pressure and was choking it.
However, Trump declined to provide details of any potential attack plans. He said indirect negotiations with Iran over its stockpile of approximately 440 kilograms of enriched uranium, which he calls “nuclear dust,” were still ongoing.
