Afrah al-Zouba, Yemen’s foreign minister, has said the Houthis are unwilling to reach a peace agreement with the internationally recognized government to end the country’s 12-year civil war.
Al Jazeera reported early Wednesday, November 4, that the senior Yemeni diplomat also commented on Iran’s role in the conflict.
According to the report, al-Zouba said, “The problem is that the Houthis are unwilling and will not be ready for peace.”
She also accused Iran of using the Houthis to advance its own objectives.
Referring to Iran’s leaders, al-Zouba said, “They are the ones creating this problem.”
The Yemeni minister said any agreement must allow the Yemeni government to regain control of the entire country.
Meanwhile, Yemen’s civil war has flared up again in recent weeks after nearly two years of relative calm.
