US President Donald Trump has said the United States is engaged in negotiations with Iran and prefers a diplomatic agreement over military action.
Al Jazeera reported early Thursday, August 6, that Trump made the remarks during an event in the US state of Nevada.
According to the report, Trump claimed the United States had been preparing what he described as “the biggest attack since World War II” before Iranian officials requested negotiations.
“We were fully prepared for the biggest attack since World War II, and they (the Iranians) called me and said, ‘Please don’t do it. Let’s talk,'” Trump said.
However, Trump reiterated that Iran must not be allowed to obtain a nuclear weapon.
