The United Nations Special Trust Fund for Afghanistan (UN-STFA) says the country’s needs continue to evolve amid the large-scale return of migrants, climate shocks and economic pressures.
In a message on Sunday, November 1, the fund said these developments have placed growing challenges on communities across Afghanistan.
The fund added that its future programs would focus on expanding successful initiatives and addressing Afghanistan’s emerging needs, with local communities given priority.
Afghanistan continues to face one of the world’s largest humanitarian crises.
According to the United Nations’ 2026 Humanitarian Needs and Response Plan, approximately 21.9 million people, or 45 percent of the country’s population, require humanitarian assistance.
Food insecurity, poverty, the large-scale return of migrants, drought, and shortages of healthcare and safe drinking water have been identified as the main factors driving these needs.
