The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) has announced that since 2021, a total of 6,469 facilities and institutions across Afghanistan have been equipped with solar energy systems.
In a statement posted on its official X account on Monday, November 10, the agency said that these include 5,462 health centers and 153 schools.
According to the UNDP, an additional 854 businesses, mostly led by women, are now operating using clean energy.
The UN agency noted that as a result of these initiatives, more than two million women now have access to clean, safe, and sustainable energy.
UNDP added that this effort will help create a brighter and more sustainable future for families in Afghanistan.
A day earlier, the agency had reported that Afghanistan remains one of the most energy-insecure countries in the world.
Adding that over 80 percent of the Afghan population still lacks access to reliable electricity.
