The United Nations has said that the ceasefire in southern Lebanon remains “largely intact,” while peacekeeping forces continue to monitor Israeli military activity in both land and air operations along the border areas.
UN spokesperson Stéphane Dujarric said on Tuesday, June 23, that the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) observed heavy machine-gun fire by Israeli forces near the Bayada area on Monday.
Dujarric also reported the presence of Israeli drone flights over UNIFIL operational zones, saying the drones appeared to be used for monitoring peacekeeping forces.
The United Nations has called on all parties involved to respect the ceasefire and avoid any escalation, particularly at a sensitive time when diplomatic negotiations are ongoing.
