UN spokesperson Stéphane Dujarric has said the situation in Yemen’s Taiz city is deteriorating due to road closures and insecurity, preventing vital supplies from reaching the area.
Al Jazeera reported early Wednesday, October 21, that Dujarric made the remarks during a press briefing at UN headquarters.
According to the report, the United Nations warned that blocked roads are preventing essential goods and services from reaching millions of people.
“Road closures and insecurity are preventing vital supplies, including fuel, from entering the city and surrounding areas,” Dujarric said.
He said that despite the UN’s efforts to provide assistance in Taiz, the organization cannot meet people’s needs if essential supplies are prevented from reaching the city.
Meanwhile, the Houthis have reportedly besieged Taiz since early October and blocked the road connecting the city to Aden, the interim capital of Yemen’s internationally recognized government.
