In response to security concerns raised by the United Nations about Afghanistan and the wider region, the Taliban claim that no foreign or rogue groups are present in the country.
Zabihullah Mujahid, the Taliban’s spokesperson, said on Thursday, February 5, that the United Nations’ concerns about Afghanistan are unfounded.
Mujahid added that these concerns are raised in meetings in which the Taliban are not present.
According to him, some countries also use such forums as an opportunity to campaign against the Taliban.
The Taliban have claimed that ISIS has been defeated in Afghanistan, but has established safe havens in neighboring countries.
Mujahid’s remarks appear to be a reference to Pakistan, which the Taliban have previously accused of supporting ISIS.
The Taliban spokesperson’s comments come as the United Nations has earlier expressed concern about the presence of terrorist groups in Afghanistan, including ISIS and the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP).
Pakistan has repeatedly accused the Taliban of supporting the TTP.
