The UN Security Council has extended the mandate of the Monitoring Committee on Taliban sanctions for another year.
The UN Security Council meeting on Afghanistan was held on Thursday, February 12, and sanctions on entities related to the Taliban have also been extended.
The exemptions for a number of Taliban leaders from the travel ban have not been renewed.
The Afghanistan sanctions (1988) include asset freezes, travel bans, and arms embargoes against individuals, groups, institutions, and entities that are connected to the Taliban.
The listing criteria for these sanctions include participation in actions, supply of weapons, recruitment of personnel, or any form of support for the activities of individuals and groups associated with the Taliban that are considered a threat to the peace, security, and stability of Afghanistan.
