The United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) has warned that Afghanistan’s cities are facing a serious air pollution crisis.
The UN agency wrote on its social media page on X on Wednesday, October 22, that fumes from vehicles and factories, along with winter smoke from burning coal and plastic, have endangered public health.
The United Nations Human Settlements Programme stated that to reduce these risks, it promotes clean energy, public transportation, and the creation of green spaces to protect people’s lives and health.
The UN agency emphasized that swift action to reduce air pollution and improve urban quality of life is of critical importance.
It is worth noting that every year, with the arrival of winter and increased use of fossil fuels, citizens of the country consistently complain about the severity of air pollution and the problems arising from it.
