Stéphane Dujarric, spokesperson for the UN Secretary-General, says more than 40 people have been killed, dozens injured, and many others remain missing following severe flooding in eastern Afghanistan.
Speaking at a press briefing on Tuesday, July 21, Dujarric said the floods caused extensive damage to homes, public buildings, and businesses.
He added that the most urgent needs include emergency shelter, food assistance, healthcare, essential household items, and mental health and psychosocial support for those affected.
Dujarric said search and rescue operations are continuing in the hardest-hit areas.
He also emphasized that the United Nations and its humanitarian partners are assessing the situation and preparing a coordinated response to the disaster.
