Sources in Kabul report an increase in the expulsion of students from the Asian University for Women (AUW) in Bangladesh.
Sources told the Hasht-e Subh Daily on Sunday that the expulsions intensified after a number of students sent a protest email to organizations supporting the university regarding the quality of the food provided by the university.
Sources added: “A group of 160 girls was threatened with expulsion by the university after they sent a protest email about their food to the university’s Korean supporters.”
Sources say the university is now expelling students under various pretexts.
Sources add that if these students return to Afghanistan, they will no longer have an opportunity to return to the university, and the years they have spent studying there will be wasted before they can complete their studies.
Sources say the university’s decision to reduce costs, particularly after the United States cut its assistance, may be financially effective for the university. However, according to the source, the lives of many of these girls in Afghanistan will be affected.
This comes as the Taliban, following their return to power in Afghanistan, have imposed widespread restrictions on the education, studies, and employment of women and girls in Afghanistan.
These restrictions have severely reduced girls’ access to education and employment opportunities and have limited the prospects of continuing education and employment for many of them.
